Shape
Safari
TM is a simple
but challenging game wherein you accumulate points by matching target shapes.
It will exercise your visualization and planning skills.
Its range of difficulties makes it possible for a 5 year old to play while still
offering mind-bending challenges for any age.
| Things You Can Do |
How To Do Them |
| Match a target |
Select an initial shape then select a series of manipulation steps.
Note that the manipulation choices don't appear until after you select the shape.
Each manipulation button depicts the end result of applying the manipulation to
the reference shape (a notched square
) that appears at the upper left.
When studying a manipulation pay careful attention to the final position(s) of the notch.
Another key is to recognize that the manipulations are applied to the entire current
drawing as a whole rather than to each shape individually.
The easiest way to understand the manipulations is to try them.
|
| Undo a step |
If you find that you have selected the wrong shape or manipulation click the
undo button .
|
| Adjust difficulty |
The difficulty of matching a target depends on two factors the level and step count, each
of which is discussed further below. When you successfully match a target, the number of
points awarded is determined by multiplying the level by the square of the step count.
You can adjust the level and step count as described below or you can just keep playing
and they will adjust upward automatically.
|
| Adjust level |
Click the up or down pointing arrow
next to the level value to increase or decrease the level, respectively. There are a total of four levels.
As the level increases you are presented with more shape and manipulator options.
|
| Adjust step count |
Click the up or down pointing arrow
next to the step count value to increase or decrease the step count, respectively. The step count is
the number of manipulations that are performed to produce the target.
|
| Get a hint |
If you are stuck, click the hint button
to reveal the initial shape or next step. If you have performed extraneous steps they will be undone
first. Each time you ask for a hint the number of points awarded upon matching the current target
will be reduced.
|
| Skip the current target |
Click the new target button to
obtain a new target without matching the current one. You might choose to do this if the current
target is too easy or too hard.
