The amplitude, offset, period and phase of the waves can be measured using the scales surrounding the wave plot area. The scales applicable to the x-axis wave appear to the left and below the plot area while those applicable to the y-axis wave appear above and to the right. When a wave or wave sub-component is selected in one of the trees, slider thumbs appear on the associated scales. These thumbs allow graphical adjustment of the wave parameters. The center thumbs can be used to adjust offset and phase while the outer thumbs can be used to adjust amplitude and frequency. As a wave’s parameters are adjusted their values are reflected in the tree.
The thumbs can be dragged with the mouse or moved using the navigation keys. To use the keys, first activate the thumb you want to move by clicking on it. Then press:
- the left arrow key to move the thumb to the next lower minor tick mark
- the right arrow key to move the thumb to the next higher minor tick mark
- the page down key to move the thumb to the next lower major tick mark
- the page up key to move the thumb to the next higher major tick mark
If auto draw is enabled and the drawing speed is set to maximum, the pattern will be redrawn as the thumbs are adjusted. Using this feature you can gain insight into the effect of each wave parameter on the overall pattern.
